Born Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao, the artist was born in Cuba on March 3, 1997 and raised in Miami, Florida. She grew up listening to Alejandro Fernández and Celia Cruz. In 2012, the 15-year-old Cabello joined a singing competition show The X Factor’s second season. She was eliminated along with four people which later gathered in a girl group named Fifth Harmony. The judges decided to bring them back to the show as a group.
